Despite the risks, the majority of teen drivers ignore cell
phone driving restrictions. Talking on a cell phone while driving can
make a young driver's
reaction time as
slow as that of a
70-year-old.
48% of young Americans
from 12-17 say
they've been in a
car while
the driver was texting.
52%
of 16- and
17-year-old
teen drivers
confess to making and answering cell
phone calls on the
road. 34% admit
to text messaging while driving.
In
2007, driver
distractions, such
as using a cell phone or text messaging,
contributed to
nearly 1,000
crashes involving 16- and 17-year-old
drivers.

Texting while driving hits home
The serious problem with distracted driving is the toll it can take on you and your family. Because teenagers and even some adults decide to text while drive the result can be devastating causing any thing from broken bone to paralyzation even death!! Yeah and i know i know all these sob stories about bout relative dieing in a texting and driving accident but its still sad to hear about how people lost their live for nothing. Like this teenager from Oakdale, Minnesota
It's hard for her to talk about what happened to her 17-year-old daughter
Kelly Phillips. She said, "Kelly was amazing."
Phillips said Kelly was
headed to a party in a friend's car in September 2007.
She said, "You say
goodbye and I love you and I'll see you later and you don't get to see her
later."
That friend crashed the car Kelly was in.
Phillips said, "It was
a texting and cell phone distraction by the driver who was also killed in this
accident and it's changed so many lives."

Government taking action
Most people know that texting while driving is wrong, dangerous and in some places its even illegal. Yet why do some people still text and drive like this one man who was caught on tape
Luckily the Government is now making laws thats making it illegal for bus and commercial truck drivers to text while drive.
On Tuesday, the federal government formally barred truckers and bus drivers from sending text messages while behind the wheel, putting its imprimatur on a prohibition embraced by many large trucking and transportation companies. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/26/AR2010012603238.htmlEven though its only a start for the national problem some states like maryland, new hampshire, or tennessee. Hopefully it will catch on to other states and save lives.
